I {Heart} Skrillex

My most recent obsession: Skrillex. 

Skrillex, aka Sonny Moore is my very favorite dubstep / electronic artist and DJ. He started out as a lead singer for the band From First To Last, suffered from vocal problems, had surgery, and shortly after decided to work on a solo career. He released songs on MySpace and later took on various tours and gigs, establishing his name and growing his fan base. Mau5trap recordings (aka DeadMau5) signed him in 2010 and the demand for his music has only exploded since.

Here are a few silly images of DeadMau5 and Skrillex. Fans might appreciate them... I definitely giggled. ^^

The first Skrillex song I found was the remix of La Roux's In For The Kill:

Initially, I was mesmerized at the unique drop @ 1:30... After YouTubing more of Sonny Moore's music, I was hooked. Mostly just to the 'remixes' ... it took a little while to warm up to his original stuff--as I was newer to the dubstep scene. Now, I can't get enough of it... One by one, my friends are getting hooked too. ^_~

Skrillex came to Portland last month. Did I go? Yes. Yes I did! :D It was amazing. Here's a photo from that night. Can you find me? Brunette in front of the guy with a beard... can't really see my whole face.))

As fun as it was being smashed by a bunch of shirtless sweaty dudes, I only stayed in that craziness long enough to see Sonny Moore up close. After about one song, we headed to a more spacious location where I danced my little dubstep heart out! :D

That night was my first time experiencing dubstep music live, 'in concert' with loud high-quality speakers. I'd fly to another city to see this show again, it was that good.

After experiencing the show, I developed: 

1. A love for this song

A previous FB status of mine: this girl will be singin' "You are a cinema. I could watch you foreverrrrrr" at the top of her lungs in the shower in about 5 minutes <3Skrillex!

2. A fondness of cherry flavored chapstick. I bought it before the concert, so the smell now reminds me of all that entailed 'that night.' <3

I'm definitely not as crazy as some of his other fans. Check this out, this girl got 'Skrillex' tattooed on her chest! She's probably gonna regret that later... at least it'll make for an amusing icebreaker topic when she's older... ? Haha )))

He's got quite a few haters too--as with anyone with such a broad and fanatic fan base. Some people call his music 'brostep' instead of dubstep. "It's nothing like the original dubstep." Blah blah blah. Seriously, who cares? If you like it, listen to it. If you don't, don't. Whiners and complainers are annoying.

More Skrillex Love: Some are calling him The Prince of Dubstep. The one to bring "the sounds of dubstep to the masses, building a tribe of fans who truly love him as a DJ and also as a person. He is Sonny Moore, the greatest American dubstepper in the history of civilization." --via some random article I found online. ^^
