This is my newest painting... well... it's not a real painting... I lack both the money and personal connections for the original. ))) It's an image of a Monet painting that has been transfered onto canvas.
Like it on my wall?! It got put up just the other day. ))) Under it is the only thing festive in my entire apartment. A closer look:
A pumpkin my mom grew in her garden, and a bear dressed up as a CANDYCORN! Ha. How cute is that?!? Anyyyyways... back to the topic of paintings.. ^_^
I love how, with paintings, the possible interpretations and reactions are infinite. It's like that with other forms of art, as well. However, there's something special about paintings. They're visual and textural. The colors and brush strokes.... oh man. I love it. )))
This one is by Monet and it's titled The Cliff, Etretat. Sunset. Here's a close up:
You know what else? I love talking to people about paintings. Here's tidbits of a skype conversation I had earlier, about this painting:
Friend: I see an elephant there
Me: never saw that 'til just now )))
Friend: interesting isn't it, the way our minds are?
Me: mmhmm)
Me: sometimes, it makes me think of the Peter Pan... Captain Hook and Princess Tigerlily
(pause) -- no response from my friend -- which NOW makes sense because he spent most of his life in Azerbaijan... Disney movies probably weren't a part of his childhood like they were mine ^_^
Me (again): metaphorically speaking, the cliff is my unknown
Me: the sun rises and sets on it every day
Friend: could be
Friend: sun is needed
Friend: the only time u feel it's real is when there is sun. Otherwise it feels uncomfortable.
(pause while I looked at it from a new perspective)
I'll let your mind run with how/why this image would feel uncomfortable without the sun. It's fun to think about.)))
I also see the cliff as representing intimidating obstacles in front of me. Things I don't quite know how to conquer. The sun is my hope. My consistency. My warmth and light. In ways, the sun is like a representation of God, to me.
That, and sometimes I stare at the water and wonder what kind of creatures live in it... and what the ocean floor looks like... like if it's super rocky or sandy... or too deep to tell. ))

What comes to mind when you see this painting? I'd love to read your thoughts. <3
